To come out from something else… Recently I’ve been reading through Emerging Churches: creating Christian community in postmodern cultures, by Eddie Gibbs and Ryan K. Bolger (both are professors at Fuller Seminary.) I must admit they really captured an honest and accurate picture of Emerging/Emergent churches. Chapters include:
Identifying with Jesus
Transforming Secular Space
Living as a Community
Welcoming the Stranger
Serving with Generosity
Participating as Producers
Creating as Created Beings
Leading as a Body
Merging Ancient and Contemporary Spiritualities
Along with two excellent appendix(s): (A) Leaders in Their Own Words were different leaders who align themselves with emergent give their thoughts, and (B) Research Methodology.
I know I haven't posted much this week. Haven't missed much. I've been sick, had a snow day at the school, but I was already there so I worked the whole day. When I was home all I wanted to do was rest and spend time with my wife. We watched a ton of movies. I'll give you a quick rundown of the movies I watched.
At Wal-mart last week I saw the re-released Peter Pan and being a soon to be parent (Oct 4th) I picked it up since my child need to grow up on the classics that I did. However I didn't remember how violent it was for a Disney movie. I give it **** out of 5 stars. FYI - Sondra got to hear the heart beat last week, I was so Jealous!
This movie is about a Jon Stewart type character who becomes President on a computer glitch. Now I felt this could be a really good movie, if they left a few scene out. Also knowing some computer code the glitch they came up with is pretty ridiculous. I give it ** out of 5 stars.
Best Bond movie of my era. Daniel Craig might be the best Bond yet. Watch it if you like action movies. The beginning of the movie opens by showing how James finally came to 00 status. Only downfall of the movie, the theme song by Chris Cornell was lacking the Bond Soundtrack quality they usually get. ***** out of 5 stars.
I enjoyed this movie. It had a different pace to it which made it unique, but I think it didn't add to the comedy of the movie. However this movie makes you really examine your life as a story. I like that. Also Emma Thompson did a great job playing the part. *** out of 5 stars.
The scene above is quiet possibly the funniest clip I ever seen, but some discretionary it is toilet humor. Now having shown you the best 3mins of the movie, I do not recommend anyone who isn't already in a severely dysfunctional situation watch this. It is not a funny movie it shows how messed up life can really it. The movie is based around mental dysfunction and the people it effects. The many abominations against youth, children, and spouses. It tries to focus on the small glimmer of hope they share, or should I say rarely share. ** out of 5 stars
I'm going to be a Father for those who didn't know. Sondra's due date is Oct 4th. We are so blessed! We covet all prayers for us, as parents, and for our child.
